Ode to Summertime: Five things I love about July and August
1. Fashion - From maxi-dresses (the easiest thing to wear that still gets you maxi-compliments), to colorful sandals, to the white pants and linen shirts you only get to sport a few months out of the year, I love how fresh and well, summery, folks look as they stroll the streets.
2. Outdoor Eating - Sunday brunch at upscale sidewalk cafes and family cookouts in the backyard both contribute to my enjoyment of summer, even with the mosquitos (who love me so much I'm starting to wonder if my blood has bbq sauce in it). Pictured right are Dayle and Milton (aka the Colgate Couple) enjoying dinner alfresco.
3. Martha's Vineyard - If you're not a New Englander and your forehead is crinkled with confusion as to why this tiny island would be included on a top five list, then get thee on a ferry and get familiar. The Vineyard has something for everybody: beach, boutiques, family fun, and dollar oysters. Rent a house, rent some bikes, and go explore.
4. Wash-and-Wear Hair - When it's hot outside, you can pull back damp, wavy hair into a chignon and call it chic. You can also rock a wild, frizzy do (a la Cree Summer from A Different World) and call it whimsical.
5. A Work Life Less Crazy - I used to be a high school teacher, and nothing can compare to two months completely off of work, but most people who do the office thing boast some kind of lighter schedule at this time of year. I hear stories of early Fridays and buildings being closed on weekends. For my poor friends with no relief (the doctors and other such superstars), keep your head up. I might just show up at the hospital to cheer you bearing a caramel frappucino (which would be #6 on my summer list, except I drink them year-round).
Feel free to add your summer loves!

Hey girl! I miss your posts - I wish you'd get back to it regularly!
Now let's see, what do I love about the summer.... definitely the outdoor cafe's. Also enjoy walking/shopping on the boardwalk (doesn't matter which one), driving with the windows down and enjoying fresh air (vs. AC), and eating ridiculous amounts of popsicles.

Taking long walks and eating alfresco are in my top 5. The 4th of July is also my favorite holiday. I especially appreciate summertime Americana. If I could capture summertime in a bottle it would include the smell of freshly cut grass. Doesn't get better!
Check out the months that has no R (may, june, july, august). . .those are truly the best times of the year for just about everything fun!
What I love about summer...swimming at midnight!!! and frozen water (I'm from Pheonix, 110 degree are normal during the day)
i like the longer days and shorter nights. i also like being able to be outside without wearing a jacket...
