Media Mistakes: Failure to Fact Check, Spell Check, and Check Themselves
I was watching the TODAY show this morning, and there was a piece on Obama entitled "Barack Star," about the country's fascination with our next President (he graces the cover of Rolling Stone this month - appearance #2). However, when they listed his musical influences as being Stevie Wonder and Jay-Z, they showed a picture of some other rapper at the mention of Hova! I think it might've been Juvenile, or The Game (it flashed really quickly). Unacceptable.Later on, I visited BET.com to see who won awards last night (because really, who has time to watch the entire broadcast?). Kanye was quoted as saying that the event definately felt like a family reunion. Dude. Why is definitely such a difficult word to spell? Come on, web writers. Proofreading is a must! Get it together.
Above, a photo of my girl Luam (http://www.luam.net/) and the real Shawn Carter.
Note: What is inevitably going to happen now is that some astute reader will catch multiple typos on this blog...

A Few Good Links: Excuses to Procrastinate at Work
Urban Reviews did an online interview with yours truly:

And lately I've been talking to a lot of guys who are in serious LTRs (Long Term Relationships) who have no plans to marry the women they're dating. Here's an interesting article about why men choose to marry some women, and not others:

Bleeding Green: Celebrating the Boston Three Party
Still reeling from the high of the Celtics game last night. Ray Allen has been my husband since he hit the big screen as Jesus Shuttlesworth, and Paul Pierce has owned my heart since his near death experience at that nightclub in the theatre district (and if you don't get these references, please don't claim being down with Beantown sports). KG just made my roster this year, but whose heart didn't he capture after his touching, virtually nonsensical post-game interview?Pictured at right are my homeboy John Allen and I roaming the streets after the Lakers' humiliation. Years from now when I'm old and senile, I might not remember that I couldn't get tickets, and think that this shot was taken outside of the Garden. Either way, the entire city was united around our guys, and it felt great.

Alicia Keys: Preacher Woman
Even when I'm a mess, I still put on a vest with an S on my chest. Oh yes, I'm a superwoman. Yes I am.
So for the group activity of the day, how about we all finish this sentence:
Even when I'm a mess, ____________________.
I'll complete mine once I see five responses from y'all. Sometimes I go into teacher withdrawl and start demanding homework. Forgive me. :-)

Rooting for the Home Team: Go Rachel, Go Celtics, GObama
The super posh website girlywebzine.com just posted a feature article on yours truly:

The Celts are down by 5 points at the half, but they'll be back. It's our time in the Bean. Pictured to the right is the one home game I made it to this season, a birthday present to myself. Tickets are way harder to score than they used to be!
And I would be remiss if I didn't big up our boy Barack for proving that you should never count anybody out before the race even begins. And if Michelle isn't the woman for dapping him up before his speech to America...that was truly a historic moment. Heck yeah, we can!

Sex and the City: The Utimate Female Bonding Experience
For the one or two ladies who didn't rush out on opening weekend, I won't ruin the film by oversharing my favorite parts. But I will tell those one-step-behind chicks to gather a crew of women this Friday night. You won't be disappointed. My friends decided to meet up in DC for an evening of frivolity after the matinee. DC isn't quite New York, but it is a city. And we're not quite Carrie,
Samantha, Charlotte, or Miranda, but we are fabulous. So it all worked out quite well.
Samantha, Charlotte, or Miranda, but we are fabulous. So it all worked out quite well.On a slight tangent, DC is quickly growing on me. And by DC, I don't mean Silver Spring, or Alexandria, or any of those other places that aren't in the center of the action. I mean the heart of the city. There's something very appealing about being able to move to a new place while still getting to live on Massachusetts Avenue. :-) And it seems like everyone's suddenly migrating there, including super-important people like my sister. Did I miss the memo that Washington is the new Atlanta? Let me find out...
Goodness, it's so difficult not to go into detail about what made this movie so special! So how about this: those of you who have seen the film can post comments (shocking moments, tearjerking scenes, lessons learned), and folks who haven't seen it yet can choose not to read them.
Many thanks to Patrice for coordinating the weekend. I've never bought a plane ticket to see a movie before, but it was well worth it.
