Media Mistakes: Failure to Fact Check, Spell Check, and Check Themselves

I was watching the TODAY show this morning, and there was a piece on Obama entitled "Barack Star," about the country's fascination with our next President (he graces the cover of Rolling Stone this month - appearance #2). However, when they listed his musical influences as being Stevie Wonder and Jay-Z, they showed a picture of some other rapper at the mention of Hova! I think it might've been Juvenile, or The Game (it flashed really quickly). Unacceptable.

Later on, I visited BET.com to see who won awards last night (because really, who has time to watch the entire broadcast?). Kanye was quoted as saying that the event definately felt like a family reunion. Dude. Why is definitely such a difficult word to spell? Come on, web writers. Proofreading is a must! Get it together.

Above, a photo of my girl Luam (http://www.luam.net/) and the real Shawn Carter.

Note: What is inevitably going to happen now is that some astute reader will catch multiple typos on this blog...

Comments:
the misspelling of "definitely" is at the top of my list for spelling errors that i HATE....incorrect usage of the words "its/it's" and "their/they're/there" top the list of grammatical errors that i detest.

I agree with Nabs. "Alot" is another pet peeve of mine. Grrr!!!!

I think we should also be concerned with the way children and youth are so caught up with the advanced technology lingo (i.e. text messaging)that they may never grasp the proper english language-they were born into this mess! As people who might be hiring these young ones at some point we haven't even begun to see the incorrect spelling of words. R u wit me?

Girl!!!! As a self proclaimed wordsmith, I am all the way with you. DefinAtely isn't even pronounced with an A sound so I have no idea why so many people have a problem with that word. It makes me angry, because people are just too lazy to look up words. What happened to the good ol' dictionary? I think it may be becoming obsolete.

You *know* I feel you on typos and grammatical errors. Damn shame.

Oh...and confusing J with someone like The Game!!! Inexcusable.
