Thirty's The New Twenty: An Unexpected Downside
I had a major birthday a couple of weeks ago, and with this ushering of a new decade, I expected an immediate feeling of grown-upness. Suddenly, I would spend my weekends at sophisticated dinner parties where folks clinked glasses and talked retirement plans. No longer would I spend hours on the phone gossiping with my girlfriends about the latest installments of the soap operas that are our lives.
However, it has become clear that neither I nor my friends have escaped the childish escapades of our twenty-something selves. One of my girls called me the other day to recount the following ridiculous story: she had met a guy a few months back whom she began dating soon after. The other day, she received a phone call AT HER JOB from this guy's ex-girlfriend, who had somehow found her from a combination of phone records and internet stalking. My friend couldn't quite explain to me what the purpose was of the call, beyond the girl's wanting my friend to know that she existed, and that the "ex" in ex-girlfriend was simply temporary. I had no idea that these types of phone calls occurred in the adult world. Next thing you know, thirty-something women will be creating phony myspace accounts in order to trick a man into admitting something that he's trying to hide.
Ladies, we are too old for such behavior. I work at a high school, and all too often see my female students bickering with each other over guys. Our generation needs to set a better example, if for no other reason than to be able to answer the phone at work without worry.

I just discovered your blogsite. I find it interesting.
Quick question- It would be interesting to get an update on this one. I'm wondering if the "ex" was right? So, was the "ex" in "ex-girlfriend" simply temporary? It has been over a year since this post.
