Blogging About Your Own Friends: Valid or Violation?

Happy New Year, folks. The year began by my turning 29, which feels okay so far. Ask me again next year as I'm driving to get my first Botox procedure - kidding. Aging isn't so bad, although I went to the club in Miami this past weekend and had a "damn, I'm old" moment. Biz Markie was DJing, and he was taking it back for all the 25 and older folks. Whenever he played stuff from the nineties, a significant number of chickenheads and young bucks just stopped dancing. They were clearly in junior high when that music was hot, and preferred the talented artists of today who sing such classics as "Shoulder Lean." Gross.

The other major event so far this year was the release of my new novel, No More Lies. I had a huge book release party, which was a great success. You can check out a few pictures at www.rachelskerritt.com. Everybody who attended got a copy of the novel, so now I'm just waiting to hear what people thought. So far the response has been really positive.

One thing that occurred after the party was that my website started to get a lot more traffic, and people began weighing in on my blog posts. Today, one of my friends asked me when I was going to write a new entry, and I asked him if he had any topics in mind. He answered, "Anything would be cool, as long as it's not about ME. The way you be calling people out in your posts is just foul."

Which brings me to wonder: am I wrong for talking smack about my friends, dates, and associates in a public forum? It's not like I'm saying anything that I wouldn't laugh about with them face to face. And it's not like I don't already take my friends, change their names, fudge the details a little bit, and make them into characters in my books - lol. All this to say, I will talk about you wherever and whenever I want, Marc Johnson. And there's nothing you can do about it.

Readers: My grammar is better than that. I think I made that comment when I was sleepy or something.

But you DO need to read her new book. It's well written and funny as hell!
